Sunset & Sundowners was a memorable evening for Durban Girls’ College as links were renewed between the school and the children’s hospital, founded by then-mayor Mary Siedle in 1931. It was the first children’s hospital on the African continent. Amongst the rubble of the once beautiful buildings, a big crowd of parents, Old Girls and pupils in leadership portfolios, listened to Trust member Dr Gerry Coovadia espouse the vision for the restoration of the buildings and the service to the children of this land. Art works in Burmese teak frames were auctioned and a significant amount was raised. The art will adorn the walls of the buildings once they have been rebuilt. The senior primary choir added vibrancy to the evening as they ended their performance with Pharrell Williams’s “Happy”.
