DGC DAY 2009
DGC DAY 2009
25th July
2.30pm – 7.30pm
DGC Day has traditionally been a fun day for DGC families and friends to enjoy. Any money made from the day goes towards a charity or the PA uses it to add to the resources of the school.
This year, in order to bring you BIGGER and BETTER enjoyment, we are departing from the usual Saturday morning event. As you can see, we have moved it to the afternoon and evening!
WHY?? Well….we have something really exciting planned which includes lights, camera, action…and for that we need the evening vibe.
Here is an outline of the day and events leading to it.
In-Cha, our celebrity violinist, is offering to help find a star. A type of talent show has been launched and the finalists will be showcased & judged on the 25th July. It is not only a talent competition, but an education on HOW A STAR IS BORN & NURTURED in order to be a success.
Details of the competition are as follows:
- Any age may enter
- Cost of entry is R50 which goes to the Jessica Foord Foundation
- 3 categories – song, instrumental, dance (all individual except dance which can be from 1-3 in a group)
- 5 judges from varying backgrounds will judge rounds 1 & 2
- Judging will be on 15th, 22nd & 29th May at DGC Lecture theatre from 1.30 – 4.30. Anyone may watch.
- The judging will be filmed
- 3 finalists from each category (9 in total) will go forward to the semi-finals
- On the 24th June, these finalists will perform for the school
- Pupils will vote for their favourites in a proper voting manner (black thumbnail, ballot paper, voting booth). These votes will count towards the final outcome.
- The 9 finalists will be taken on an educational workshop to a record company in the July holidays. Here they will learn every aspect of the entertainment business and what is needed in order to be successful. They will also be given advice, from the professionals, on what image would suit them best and how to achieve it.
- On the 25th July at 4pm, these finalists will again perform on a huge stage on the field (with big-screen TVs) and voting will be repeated as before. These votes will also count towards the final outcome. The judges’ votes will then complete the judging cycle and the winners will be announced later that evening, at around 7pm. After the announcement, edited footage of the winners from the first audition will be shown and these finalists will perform again.
- They will win a professional CD (DVD for dancers) of their piece made in a studio as well as a voucher for Max Institute of Fashion Art to the value of R500 (per finalist or group).
