Welcome to the Old Girls’ Guild onlineThe Guild’s presence permeates the lives of the school pupils.
In the first term the grade 11 girls are successful in raising an extraordinary amount of money in the collection boxes used for the annual street collection. This event is arranged by the Guild committee with the proceeds benefiting the two nursery schools established in the 1940s by caring and far-sighted Guild members.
DGC Day embraces all the various constituencies which make up the College family. It is a day on which reunion groups are welcomed to the school for assembly, tea, tours, visits to the archives and lunch. It is also an opportunity for Old Girls to pit their prowess on the sports fields against the school teams.
The Guild initiated and implemented the idea of ballroom dancing lessons with Kearsney College to round out the education of the Grade 10s. These lessons are held once a week for a period of six weeks alternately at each school, culminating in a formal. The first two dances give our girls the opportunity to dance with their dads, followed by ballroom dances with their partners. At this point the parents leave and the social begins.
At the end of the third term, when the Grade 12s have written trials and the end of their school career looms, a breakfast is held at College House by the Guild, at which the Grade 12s are formally welcomed as Guild members. An Old Girl guest speaker is invited to address the group at this Meet the Matrics function.
College girls act as waitresses at the annual bridge drive which is run by the Old Girls committee for the benefit of the nursery schools.
In late November the Christmas party for the nursery schools is held in Mitchell Park and one of the high school grades spends the morning at the party looking after the young children.
The Guild committee meets regularly in the Trust House boardroom to plan the various activities noted above.
